Negative influences of Instagram

The aim of this blog is to inform readers who are interested in this topic about various issues connected with it. Social media in general has a great impact on today’s society and influence people in many ways. I chose Instagram and its negative effects because I am convinced that it affects the youth significantly. They spend an incredible amount of time scrolling through their feed and the things they see, like, share or post somehow shape their point of view and values as well. Furthermore, there are some dangers when it comes to Instagram; people do not value their privacy and therefore anyone can have a look into their life, some people believe strangers who contact them and this can lead to severe consequences. Moreover, children and teenagers often do not realize that what they see may not be the actual reality, but just a reflection of what people want to make it look like.

  1. Instagram has become a part of our everyday life and it may easily turn from positive to negative tool without a proper awareness. Some people still do not differentiate between reality and the world of the social media, that is why it may be helpful to write about. Really nice blog :-)

They think that if others have beautiful posts, automatically their lives are full of joy, unforgettable trips and great parties. However, this is often far from the truth. Moreover, the blog mentions how social media can cause depression and mental health problems. https://evaesne.wordpress.com/ In Ev’s spot, issues such as how social media is toxic, body overpositivity and body images in media are discussed. The topic about beauty standards is very sensitive for majority of people and mostly wo...

Current Event I

Blackfishing is a term which has been used recently and is describing people, especially women, who are accused of pretending to be black on social media. They use make-up, tanning and sometimes surgeries to achieve a different appearance. This trend appeared in November  when people on Twitter started calling on people to post women who pretended to be black. Consequently, the tweet had more than 23,000 retweets and many responses criticizing these people for doing such thing. They also provided pictures before and after, which show huge differences and changes in their skin tones. However, these accused Instagram users claim that their intention is not to change their appearance in order to look black  (Petter, 2018) . Swedish Instagram influencer, Emma Hallberg, is the most infamous for blackfishing. After two visibly different pictures of her were posted online, she had to defend herself. She told Buzzfeed that she sees herself only as white and that she gets he...

For Further Research

Hey, everyone! Since I am convinced that topic about Instagram and its effect is broad and there are many opinions about this issue, I would like to suggest some websites to visit. Firstly, I suggest visiting https://studybreaks.com/culture/instagram-addiction/ by Vanessa Le because not only it explains negative and dangerous effects of using Instagram, but it also describes experience of a famous person who quit using Instagram for her own good. Moreover, you might be surprised how many bad habits mentioned in the article you have as well. Another interesting webpage that caught my attention while writing my blog was https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/sep/17/instagram-is-supposed-to-be-friendly-so-why-is-it-making-people-so-miserable . Example of famous fashion blogger who posts pictures in partnership with certain brands was mentioned as well as negative reactions from people seeing those posts. I think it is worth visiting because it explains the power of Instag...
